Escape to the Snow
If someone tells you that they are going on vacation it is likely that the first image to come to mind will be one of sun, sea and sand, a nice hotel, and possibly a cocktail or two. This is not, however, the only way to relax. There are many who prefer snowy climbs to sandy beaches as Lapland’s blossoming tourist industry goes to show.
Lapland itself is a region that stretches through parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland. Many are lured by its somewhat mystical reputation as a wondrous wilderness, full of magical and inspiring possibilities. The reality does not disappoint. The scenery in Lapland is comparable to no other place on earth. As one of Europe’s few remaining wildernesses, the snow-scapes here remain pure, unspoiled and truly breathtaking.
Furthermore, there are plenty of magical things to keep you occupied. If you’re already a dab hand at skiing or snowboarding, how about having a go at tobogganing or even bobsledding? Take a right through the mountains on a husky drawn cart and marvel at reindeer basking in the winter sunshine. Still searching for more fairytale holiday magic? If you travel at the right times of year and you have a bit of luck on your side, you could catch a glimpse of the legendary northern lights - the Aurora Borealis, to use more scientific terms.
If all this sounds too good to miss then take a look at the last minute breaks that are available for this year in the January sales. Cheap flights are currently on offer at very tempting rates from online travel sites such as Flight Centre and there are many hotels featuring last minute special offers for the months of January and February. No time to go this year? Why not get yourself organised, plan ahead and get booking for next year? There is no time like the present to start making those magical travel dreams come true. |
